We are proud to announce that the Baleia Wines Mountain Bike Challenge will be taking place for the second consecutive year and will take place on 9 September 2017 at the Baleia Wines winery just off the N2 outside Riversdale in the Western Cape (GPS Co-Ordinates: 34°06’36.0”S 21°15’18.3”E).

Choose from three distances (20km, 40km or 88km) and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the area on your bicycle.

A new and exciting addition will be an Adventure Trail Run of 12km that will be taking place on the same day. The start and finish of the trail run will also be at Baleia Wines.

Mountain Bike Routes:

MTB 20km

The 20km route will mostly consist of single track and jeep track with an altitude gain of almost 320m. There will be one water point on the route.

MTB 40km

The 40km route will consist of 60% flowing gravel road and 40% jeep and single track of a total altitude gain of 600m. There will be 3 water points (10km, 21km and 30km) on the route.

MTB 88km

The 88km route will consist of mostly gravel roads (70%) with about 30% single and jeep tracks with a total altitude gain of 1060m. There will be five water points at 10km, 30km, 50km, 65km and 78km.

Trail Run 12km

The route for the Baleia Wines Adventure Trail Run consists of gravel road, jeep track and singletrack and the first 2.9km of gravel road is the same as the mountain bike route before the track turns away and descend into a ravine. From here it is singletrack and jeeptrack up and down ravines, hills, valleys and a little forest section. The last 500 meters is again shared by the MTB trails. There will be a waterpoint at approximately 6km, although participants are encouraged to also carry their own supplies.
