Post vintage

It’s difficult to believe that we are where we are. Again …

Vintage 2020 has been a cracker! After an intense tasting of all the batches of the different varieties the jury is out. Intensity and complexity are the golden thread. The Chardonnay’s are showing beautiful citrus notes throughout and the Sauvignon Blanc has a rare nuance of Elder Flower and Frangiopani (Hawaii-flower). Something different.

Pinot Noir possibly showing it’s best vintage to date and Tempranillo showing it’s usual youthful tannin and Turkish Delight.

The star of the vintage must be Syrah though! With so many different variants and vessel types we are sure to produce something to keep for many years. The Quartsitic soil portion of the block making up an unbelievable core to this vintage with the Limestone and Schist portions adding savoury spice and lace-like tannin.

The vineyards are looking very fine and the late May rains have been very good for us. Particulary interesting is to see the late leaf drop this year. Most likely to the winter temperatures not kicking in yet.

In the middle of July or so we will receive our first Grenache Noir vines which are due for planting this winter. What an exciting addition to our stable. Maybe something to sharpen our Syrah with and then also looking at producing something special in the long term as a single varietal if the quality can be harnessed.

We have already bottled the first lots of our Deborah and Sauvignon Blanc 2020. Just in time as we will be sold out of the 2019’s at the winery before the weeks end.

So exciting to see the growth of the Deborah (Rosé)as a brand. The demand for which has grown as we expand into the US market.

We have navigated through a tough period just like many other wine farmers in this country and we are extremely grateful to all who have supported us. The circle has completed once again. We forge ahead.

Regards
