    INGE CHARDONNAY 2014

The extraordinary piece of earth close to Africa’s tip, on which our Chardonnay vines grow, contributes to this unique wine. This wine has a mouth-watering citrus fruit taste with hints of oak and richness that fills the palate.

Appropriately named after Jan-Hendrik, Jr. and wife Lindi’s daughter, this wine will age with strength and elegance.

    Tasting Notes:

This Chardonnay exudes ripe tropical fruit notes, dried peaches and charming hints of butterscotch and toffee. The wine is soft in the mouth, shows citrus on the mid palate and a lingering finish of lemon drops with a fine trace of oak.

    Food pairing

Our cooler climate Chardonnay pairs well with a creamy mushroom chicken dish and rich soups.

    Media Write-ups

"This is an exceptional Chardonnay. It had layers of flavour and perfect balance both on the nose and palate. It is an absolute standout Chardonnay that will improve and develop complexity over the next years. Congratulations to the Baleia team." - Allan Mullins, Cape Wine Master

"We sampled the wine at the weekend with some wine knowledgeable people and they all enjoyed the wine and demolished what was left with supper  ! No better testimony. We all agreed that it probably needs a year or two more to show it’s best." - Dave Hughes, Distiller, wine maker, wine auctioneer, international wine and spirit judge and founder of the Cape Wine Academy

"Tasting note: Some reduction, white peach and citrus plus overt oatmeal and roasted nuts on the nose. Good fruit concentration, bright acidity. Pleasant but straightforward. Rating: 86/100." - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za editor

"The wine was rather interesting… Good in an atypical way. Buttery but not too showy. Lovely character – reckon the description on the label is fairly accurate. And unusual packaging – tiles, sculptures, different…" - Mike Froud, Top Wine SA

"Am in heaven. Well done to a relatively unknown West Coast winery for the Baleia Inge Chardonnay 2014. Rich creaminess so typical of the varietal. Finish of hazelnuts and caramel with a zingy lemon twist. Well worth the price for a special occasion." - Nicola Jenvey, Wine Editor of The Mercury

    ERHARD PINOT NOIR 2013

With soils rich in limestone and growth conditions close to the ocean, all conspire to give this wine a unique character. It has a delicate fresh hay and voluptuous strawberry nose.

The palate combines softness and rich tannins that ensure the wine will age well for ten years and longer. Named after Jan-Hendrik, Jr. and wife Lindi’s son, this wine is simply a profusion of classic beauty.

    Tasting Notes:

This Pinot Noir reveals delicate red berries, fine herbs and fragrant notes of violet. Dark cherry skins and light spicy perfumes on the palate allow the earthy notes to gain lift. This wine will benefit from decanting.

    Food pairing

Pinot Noir is our lighter bodied red wine, often described as a red wine palate with a white wine style. The wine pairs well with cold meats, roasted chicken and pork as well as venison.
